In 1972, I was working at Texas Instruments on the ASC (Advanced Scientific Computer) and was the designer of the MES (Memory Extention System). TI sold an ASC system to an oil company in Amstelveen (just outside Amsterday), and I was asked to go help bring the system up. I spend three months in Europe from October until January of 1973. In December, Except for two weeks (mentioned below), I and the other TI people stayed in the Alpha Hotel, which evidently doesn't exist any more since I can't find it on the Internet.
When I and my fellow Texans started our stay in the Alpha, we would go to the restaurant and order iced tea. The hotel staff didn't know what we were talking about, but they would bring us some hot tea and a glass of ice. But the end of our stay, we could order iced tea.
I took a two week vacation in December, 1972, and traveled around Europe on a Eurail pass. I visited Germany (Munich), Austria (Vieanna), Italy (Venice and Rome), Vatican City, Switzerland (Zurich), France (Paris), Luxembourg, and Brussels (Belgium).
A year later, in December of 1973, I was asked to return to Amstelveen to help them repair the equipment. So I took another vacation and went to London.
Several month later, in early 1974, I was asked for a third time to go back. On this trip, I traveled around the Netherlands.
The photos are from these three trips. Unfortunately, the photos are poor quality. I scanned the photos in 1998, 26 years after the trip, and most of them had faded badly.
